Albany’s Got a New Police Chief

We are excited to announce that Chief Dave Lira has completed all requirements to become our full-time Police Chief. Dave started his years in public service by serving in the Army and Marine Corps. After that, he graduated from Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and has gone on to serve for over twenty-two years in law enforcement. Chief Lira has eleven years of command experience from serving in multiple jurisdictions in eastern Iowa area (West Liberty & Vinton). Most recently, Chief Lira retired from Vinton, IA in January 2024.

Chief Lira has wonderful communication skills and has already been out in the squad car meeting with community members to introduce himself. We are sure he will build strong relationships with the community very quickly. The Chief has been assisting with getting all those UTV/Golf Carts registered for the new year. On a personal note, Dave has two adult children, a son living & working in the Quad City area and a daughter who is attending college in Southern Wisconsin.
