Lead Service Lines in Public Water System
As the Village of Albany meets the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) requirements to report, we will also be assisting our residents with ensuring good water quality entering our homes. If needed, we will have staff available to help with inspecting water service lines from the water main into our residences. The effort is to identify any lead pipes in the water service leading into our homes. A survey will need to be completed for EVERY water connection to the Village of Albany Public Water Systems (PWS) by 1 Sep 2024.
Simple tests can be used to determine what type of water line is in use and are explained on the survey (both PDF and Online forms). When we get done with this phase, we will be able to focus on a plan to replace any lead lines, if any discovered.
The schedule or timeline proposed for this phase is as follows:
- NOW – Informational Letter & Surveys mailed with Village of Albany April 2024 Utility Bills. Residents with multiple properties will have to complete a survey for each property that has water hookup.
- APRIL/MAY – Surveys are to be returned to Village Hall or completed online.
- JUNE/JULY/AUGUST – Village/MSA Representatives will go Door-to-Door assisting with completing all surveys not already submitted to Village of Albany.
- 1 SEPTEMBER 2024 – All water connections from water mains reported to IEPA with a replacement plan included at that time.
Together, we can improve our records and implement a plan to eliminate Lead (if any) in our water system.
